Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are preparing to make a second bid for Liverpool’s 20-year-old attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho, according to Football Insider.
Having failed with a £10m+ bid for Carvalho in May, it is understood that Leipzig will return with an improved offer within the next few weeks.
The German club’s initial offer was rejected out of hand by Liverpool, with sources close to the club labelling the offer as “derisory”.
The Reds paid £7.7m to prise Carvalho away from Fulham in May 2022, and it is clear that they would want significantly more than that to even consider allowing the young midfielder to leave on a permanent basis.
Liverpool would prefer to sanction a loan deal, as they believe the player has significant potential and could be worth much more after a season of regular top-flight football.
Brentford, Burnley and West Ham have been credited with an interest in Carvalho, but it is Leipzig who are the clear favourites to land the talented attacker.
The management team at Anfield are convinced that Carvalho has what it takes to succeed at the top level, and if they were to agree to a sale they would almost certainly insist on inserting a buy-back clause into the contract.
For his part, Carvalho just wants to play regular first-team football. It is unlikely that he will do that at Anfield next season — particularly as the Reds are looking to bolster their midfield options with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram.
Carvalho has already informed the club of his desire to leave, either on loan or on a permanent basis, and the smart money would be on him moving to the Red Bull Arena before the end of the summer transfer window.
